For a lot of people, makeup seems like hard work. It’s confusing, challenging and sometimes downright scary. So I wanted to put together a list of tips and trick for y’all.
Before I begin, I have to say, good skincare is essential when it comes to makeup. There is nothing worse than being all done up and realizing your skin is dehydrated or blotchy. Take care of that skin and create a great skincare regime that suits your needs. You’ll see a world of difference in the way your makeup looks! That being said, let’s get down to it! First and foremost you need to figure out your skin type and from here you’ll be able to find the right foundation for you. If you’re on the oily side you may want something with a matte finish. If that’s not your thing and you would like a dewy finish, look for a foundation that is creamy and lightweight. On the other hand, if your skin is dry make sure you avoid waterproof and oil control foundations. These will eliminate the remaining moisture in your skin, leaving you dry and flaky. I myself have combination skin (ek!) and I’ve found that light to medium coverage works best for me. I try to avoid the heavy stuff in order to let my skin breathe – even somewhat. You have to also remember that if you are using a light or medium coverage foundation, you can always layer that baby on, for the days you’d like more coverage. So a heavy foundation isn’t really necessary for most, in my opinion but to each their own!
What’s key is to not let yourself get frustrated when you’re looking for any product that works for you. Trust me it takes time to find a foundation that you’re happy with. I like to change the foundation I use a few times a year due to changing skin tone and also because of the different ways my skin likes to act during the different seasons. It’s always a learning process. So just take it one day at a time.
Now that you’ve found your perfect foundation, let’s talk concealer. If you’re looking to brighten that under eye, my suggestion is to go for a lighter shade then your skin color. I like my under eyes really bright so I tend to go for two to three shades lighter. I feel that this gives me a fresh and rejuvenated look. If you want something more subtle, I’d suggest you stay as close to your skin color as possible, maybe daring to go one shade lighter. Also go for a peachy tone, this will help to warm up that under eye like no other!
Just like that your base is complete! If you can get these two things down pat, the next steps are a breeze. Always remember to have fun with it.
